the streetlights call out your name

the streetlights call out your name

All the roads we’ve traveled,
I remember every one.
All the wrong turns, all the wasted gas,
No, they weren’t a waste at all.

Cruising down the streets, windows rolled down,
Music blaring, singing out loud.
Every place I pass,
The benches, the streets,
Remind me of the nights we spent
Holding fast to racing heartbeats.

Remember when we waltzed atop the playground,
To the music in the air?
This night was made for us,
And we don’t want to share.
We’ll lay inside your car,
In a parking lot close by,
Seats tilted back, sitting side by side.
Gazing through the sunroof,
We’ll stare up at the sky,
Watching stars obscured by trees.
We’ll turn toward the streetlights,
And listen for the breeze.
